Are you afraid of the dentist ?
WE’VE GOT A SOLUTION
At Centre Dentaire Boulevard des Galeries d’Anjou in Montreal, we offer conscious sedation using nitrous oxide.
According to the Canadian Dental Association, nearly 40% of Canadians don’t see a dentist regularly. This is mainly attributable to fear and anxiety about receiving dental care.
What is conscious sedation using nitrous oxide?
Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is an odourless gas you breathe in through a mask. It consists of oxygen (O2) and nitrogen oxide (NO2). Artificial fragrances–like orange, strawberry, bubble gum, grape, mint or vanilla–can be added to make the experience even more pleasant.
How does it help?
The fear of going to the dentist is very common. Unfortunately, a lot of people put off seeing their dentist and in doing so they put their oral health at risk. Today, there are solutions for reducing the stress, anxiety and discomfort associated with dental care. Conscious sedation with nitrous oxide is an excellent option. In fact, you might even enjoy your experience!
Is it safe?
Nitrous oxide is perfectly safe for children and adults. Patients do not need to fast prior to their appointment and they remain conscious for the duration of the treatment. This makes it possible to communicate with the patient receiving sedation. Nitrous oxide is fully eliminated from your body within 3 to 5 minutes following your treatment. As a result, you can leave the clinic alone and immediately get back to work or your usual activities.
What does it feel like?
- Diminished ability to see, hear, feel the things you touch and perceive pain.
- Tingling or numbness in your hands and feet, as well as your mouth’s mucous membrane, which can dull the pain associated with receiving local anaesthetic. In fact, anaesthetic may not be needed at all for certain minor treatments.
- A feeling of well-being and floating (light-headedness).
- Bursts of laughter.
- A wave of heat.
